Butterfields Restaurant on Old Willets Path in Hauppauge is looking forward to July 29, because that is National Chicken Wing Day as proclaimed by Buffalo New York’s mayor in 1977. Buffalo is considered the original home of the Buffalo chicken wing after Teressa Bellissimo of the Anchor Bar fried up some wings then tossed them in butter and hot sauce to satisfy her son and his friends one late night in 1964. Up until then, chicken wings were usually saved for soups. Others followed and the mighty chicken wing has become a staple of happy hours and late night snacking, but they are good any time of the day.
