August is National Sandwich Month!

Butterfields Restaurant in Hauppauge invites you to celebrate with us, because August is National Sandwich Month! Meat and bread have been a staple of many diets for centuries, but the sandwich as we know it today was created when the Earl of Sandwich John Montague requested a food he could eat without interrupting a marathon gambling session. The chef at his London club placed sliced meats between pieces of bread and the sandwich was born.

July 29th: National Chicken Wing Day!

Butterfields Restaurant on Old Willets Path in Hauppauge is looking forward to July 29, because that is National Chicken Wing Day as proclaimed by Buffalo New York’s mayor in 1977. Buffalo is considered the original home of the Buffalo chicken wing after Teressa Bellissimo of the Anchor Bar fried up some wings then tossed them in butter and hot sauce to satisfy her son and his friends one late night in 1964. Up until then, chicken wings were usually saved for soups. Others followed and the mighty chicken wing has become a staple of happy hours and late night snacking, but they are good any time of the day.
